About Our School
Don Severino Fabriani institute for hearing impaired
Empowering Hearing-Impaired Children Through Education, Skills, and Compassion
The Don Severino Fabriani Institute for Hearing Impaired is a beacon of hope and opportunity, operated by the Daughters of Providence for the Deaf and Dumb. Established in 2006, the institute embodies the congregation’s unwavering mission to educate and uplift children with hearing impairments, regardless of their backgrounds.
Currently, the institute serves 67 students from Grade 1 to Advanced Level (A/L), guided by a dedicated team of 15 staff members, including 5 compassionate nuns. Our curriculum aligns with the national syllabus and employs Total Communication, a holistic approach integrating lip reading, sign language, and speech development to ensure students receive a well-rounded education tailored to their unique needs.
Beyond Academics: Enriching Lives Through Skills and Creativity
In addition to academic instruction, the institute fosters the holistic development of its students by offering a range of extracurricular activities, enabling them to discover their talents and develop essential life skills:
- Computer Studies: Equipping students with digital literacy for the modern world.
- Western Band: Encouraging teamwork, discipline, and musical expression.
- Agriculture: Teaching sustainable practices and fostering a connection to nature.
- Home Science: Developing practical skills for everyday life and future independence.
- Dancing: Celebrating cultural and creative expression through movement.
- Sewing: Imparting vocational skills for self-sufficiency.
Our Mission
At the Don Severino Fabriani Institute, we strive to create an inclusive and supportive environment where children with hearing impairments can flourish academically, socially, and emotionally. By combining education, life skills, and extracurricular activities, we empower our students to lead meaningful, independent lives and contribute positively to society.
Through this noble mission, we continue to transform the lives of hearing-impaired children in Sri Lanka, guided by the values of compassion, dignity, and opportunity.
